Your destination:

Lofer

In confluence, although there are about 2000 inhabitants of Lofer, there are nearly the same number of guest-beds. Hotels and pensions offer a minority of those beds; the majority comes from the fact that nearly every private house and farm house offer at least one guest accommodation. Welcoming others into our homes and lives is not disingenuous platitude.

Every guest and visitor we have spoken to is pleasantly surprised, and many are enchanted, by the genuineness of Lofer. Soon guests find themselves smiling at and greeting strangers on the street and on the trail – just as locals do. Or taking a piece of errant litter to a trash can – just as locals do. And, although there are exceptions, it is almost impossible to lose something without someone returning it to you immediately, or holding it for you until you return for it.

For many decades, Lofer has been a peaceful destination or way-point for year-round enjoyment of alpine activities, for families, individuals and couples.

For summer and autumn activities:

  • Hiking, climbing, cycling, kayaking, canyoning, and more
  • Family summer vacation, lots of children-friendly activities, as well as nearby museums and activity-parks
  • Sightseeing: Salzburg, Zell am See, Grossglockner, Konigsee, etc.

For winter activities:

  • Nordic & Alpine Skiing, as well as Touring and Snowboarding at Loferer Alm.
  • Nordic skiing, ski touring, snowshoeing, winter hiking, tobogganing everywhere nearby.

Designated as a market and customs point early in the Hapsburg’s reign, Lofer has over half a millennia of tradition of welcoming visitors and travelers. Travel and trade from the directions of Zell am See and eastern Tirol towards Berchtesgaden and Salzburg required passage through Lofer, which experienced every imaginable visitor from Napoleon’s Army to Mozart and even Hollywood, personified by Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor and Clint Eastwood.

This long tradition of welcoming guests into our homes and lives gives Lofer a rare balance. Guests when dining or hiking, shopping or cycling, having a beer or sharing a table at a festival or an Alm, will find themselves shoulder to shoulder with locals. In contrast, people seeking souvenirs, night-life, anonymity, or a simulacrum of city-life need look elsewhere.

Local life goes on much as it has for decades and centuries. The largest source of employment in the area comes not from Tourism, but from Forestry and Agriculture. Farming, forestry and lumber work are held in high regard, as are trades and crafts. Most families are composed of several generations – with each successive generation thriving in the local area. This creates a fabric of community and fellowship that most people elsewhere never get to know or enjoy.

Your accommodation:

Haus Patricia

Haus Patricia is situated near the village centre. The cable car is only a 3-minute walk from our front door, and there are 10 restaurants and cafes within 10 minutes walking.

In front of our house, at the end of our garden, is the country road B311, that runs between Salzburg and Zell am See, and makes our house easy to find and accessible.

Behind our house runs the Saalach river: you can hear the sound of the water as this stretch is a high difficulty level white water track.

Our house faces South-West; therefore, it is in a warm, sunny spot, and there are no buildings in front of us to obstruct the breath-taking view of the mountains: the Loferer Steinberge.

These mountains are over 2000 m high, and there are several hiking trails going up, via ferratas and rock-climbing areas and even a mountain hut up there.

The house was purpose built as a pension (B&B) in 1971, and has been continuously renovated to provide modern appearance, conveniences and amenities for guests.
