Excursions
The following excursions are all within an hours drive of Lofer and are all well worth seeing:
Zell am See: Pretty picture postcard, lakeside resort with a pleasant 10 km-long promenade
shoreline. Perfect for swimming and boating in the Zeller lake with waters the quality of drinking water.
Innumerable colourful pavement cafes, restaurants and shops crowd the central pedestrianized zone.

Kaprun: Good skiing available all year round on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier of 10,500ft,

dam in Europe.
Just on from Zell am See Grossglockner (highest mountain in Austria) and the Krimmler water
falls (highest in Europe) can be reached.
Kitzbuhel: Dating back to the 14th century, its painted medieval houses, churches, stylish shops
and pavement cafes make a lovely nearby trip.
Berchesgaden: A beautiful town set just over the boarder in one of Germany's national parks.
Surrounded with the most stunning mountainous panoramas of the German Alps. Here you can visit the Royal
Palace, Eagle's nest (Hitler's former diplomatic centre) or Konigsee "King Lake" the beautiful emerald
green lake with boat trips and lakeside shopping and walks. Here there is also a toboggan run (open summer
and winter) 1600m,63 curves and 3 jumps!
Salzburg: This city has it all: visit the beautiful St Rupert's Cathedral originally built in
774 and St.Peter's Abbey. Walk or take the funicular up to Hohensalzburg fortress dating back to 1077 from
where the views to the south from its hilltop perch of the city are magnificent.
There are
many museums including the Museum Carolino-Augusteum and Mozart's birthplace where he lived with
his family 1773-1787. Follow the trail of "The sound of music" on a guided
tour, many scenes from the film were filmed here. Then visit the many shops and boutiques or sit in one of
the many elegant cafes and sample apple strudel!
There are also all the nearby villages to visit ,for
instance St.Martin is only a 30 minute walk from Lofer and from here you can walk up to the beautiful
Baroque pilgrims church of Maria Kirchental.
Bad Reichenhall in Germany some 25mins is where a royal spa tradition and modern life harmoniously
meet! Beautifully tended parks, an elegant pedestrian area boasting 330 exclusive shops, cozy restaurants and countless historical sights
make this alpine town one of the most precious jewels of Bavaria. There is a newly opened spa thermal swimming pool and fitness centre here
for the total relax. The Predigtstuhl cable-car is the oldest large capacity cabin lift in Germany. Preserved in its original state, it is a
real old-timer and offers spectacular views during the ride. Both summer and winter, the Predigtstuhl boasts panoramic vistas of both Bavarian
and Austrian peaks and valleys.
